The Office of the General Counsel is seeking an entry level attorney to join the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Legislation and Regulation (OGC/L&R) in its Regulatory Division.

The Regulatory Division is primarily responsible for the review and clearance of all regulations and significant guidance documents issued by the Department, but attorneys are involved in the full portfolio of issues the Department of Commerce oversees, including fisheries and marine management (under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, Endangered Species Act, and Marine Mammal Protection Act), export controls, patents and trademarks, international trade, standards and technology, and information policy. Attorneys serve as the Departments administrative legal experts, and routinely advise senior officials in the Department in that capacity. In addition, attorneys advocate on the Departments behalf with OMB and other Cabinet-level Agencies.

District Environmental Legal Intern

Interns with District Department of the Environment are generally responsible for assisting OGC attorneys with the issues described above and various research projects as they arise. In addition, interns have the opportunity to interact with many of DDOE’s engineers, biologists, technicians, inspectors, environmental specialists, and other staff on a wide variety of District-related issues, including air and water quality, hazardous and toxic substances, underground and leaking underground storage tanks, lead-based paint matters, and energy and sustainability issues.

The RAND Survey Research Group seeks 6-8 Legal Coders to work on a short-term project at a federal agency in Washington, DC. This is an adjunct, non-benefitted position. It will begin in early July and will last for approximately 2-3 months, and it may be part time or full time. The pay rate is $21.50 per hour.
