The Department of Defense is currently seeking applicants for the paid Pathways Summer Internship.

Each year the Office of General Counsel seeks high achieving law students to participate in the OSD Honors Legal Internship Program. The program provides an introduction to the dynamic legal environment of the Department of Defense and affords participants a wide variety of learning experiences. The program is expected to start on June 6, 2016.

Basic Function: The Legal Intern will support the Institute’s legal department and work directly with the Assistant General Counsel. The legal department is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the Institute’s programs and administration, managing the contract review process, overseeing the internal audit process and insurance portfolio, assisting with the development of policies and procedures and developing relevant training sessions on applicable legal issues.

The chambers of Judge Heard in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City is accepting applications for judicial internships until April 15th for the Summer and August 15th for the Fall of 2015. The Judge is in Criminal Rotation for 2015. Judicial interns will work directly with the Judge. The judicial interns may receive credit or volunteer but, regardless, the requirements below are generally consistent with or in addition to those outlined by the University/College you attend.

Students selected will be dedicated to our Criminal docket and will perform legal research and prepare legal summaries. Under Judge Heard’s direct supervision they will be expected to engage with lawyers, court personnel and other judicial staff.

Areas of focus are affirmative and defensive asylum claims, analyzing the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, non-immigrant visas, cancellation of removal, adjustments, as well as complicated naturalization, and some appellate work. Legal Review and Advice Attorney

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) in support of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is seeking one or more attorneys to serve in the legal review and advice group of the Advice    Branch. This is an excepted service position. The duties of the position focus primarily on providing  legal review of audits, evaluations, and other written products created by OIG components, and providing legal advice on a wide variety of HHS programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, to OIG components within agreed upon deadlines. The attorney will provide legal advice on a full range of Inspector General Act and HHS program and grant issues. These include complex legal issues related to Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, and the programs and operations of NIH, FDA, CDC, and the rest of HHS. The attorney may also be called upon to assist with special inquiries concerning current issues within HHS. The attorney may be called upon to assist in providing training to various OIG components about the Inspector General Act, and the laws, regulations, and policies pertinent to HHS programs and grants. Advice Branch legal review and advice attorneys also perform other duties as assigned.
